What is this challenge?
This post is part of a 30-day personal branding challenge I started to document —raw and unfiltered— how I’m building my brand from scratch. Day by day. Mistake by mistake. Post by post.

Day 1 – Who am I and why am I doing this?
Challenge task: Tell your story. Who you are, what you do, and why it matters to you.
I’m David Alfaro.
And for many years, honestly… I did web design, marketing, and all things digital “on the side.” Because I know how to do it. I’m good at it. But I never treated it like a real business. Until now.
So… why do I do what I do?
Because once I built a website to sell vinyl stickers… and didn’t sell a single one.
The problem?
No one saw it.
Not even my mom.
And not because it was bad. But because nobody knew it existed.
That’s when I learned something that stuck with me:
You can have the best product in the world, but if only you (and your parrot) know about it… you’re not going to sell anything.
That’s when I became obsessed with marketing.
I wanted to understand: why do some brands sell and others don’t?
And I discovered that marketing, in plain words, is just telling people what you do and how you can help them.
Or like I wrote on my very first website:
“Marketing is raising your hand and saying: Hey, I’m here. I can help you.”
I’m not sharing this because it defines who I am today, but because it’s what brought me here. And if you’re reading this expecting a perfect story, some kind of meteoric success… that’s not what this is.
I’m writing this because I want to see if I can walk the talk. I do want to help others —yes— but I also want to prove to myself that I can make this work.
That’s why this challenge exists. That’s why this series exists. Because building a brand isn’t just uploading a logo to Instagram. It’s showing up, sarcasm and all. With mistakes. With doubts. With good days… and not-so-good ones.
Proof: Here’s where my personal brand starts (Real Numbers)
I’m documenting the whole thing. And just to be clear: this isn’t one of those challenges where the person already has half a million followers. These are my actual numbers on Day 1:
- LinkedIn: 70 followers (with 1 post and 4 articles)
- Instagram: 44 followers (0 posts)
- Facebook: 1 follower, 0 likes, 6 posts
- YouTube: 0 followers, 0 likes, 0 videos
Nothing impressive. But it’s real.
And that’s exactly what I want to show: how something gets built from scratch —no hacks, no hype, no BS.
What did I learn today?
That your past doesn’t define where you’re going —but it does explain how you got here.
Also, that telling your story isn’t just about the facts. It’s about the why behind them.
Today I remembered something that’s been true since that first sticker site: most people don’t fail because they’re bad at what they do… they fail because no one knows they exist.
And that’s exactly the problem I want to help solve.
