You Don’t Need a Personal Brand… Or Do You? | Challenge Day 6

Recording your first video is awkward, but it forces clarity.

What is this challenge?

This is part of a 30-day challenge where I’m building my personal brand — publicly, imperfectly, and a little unfiltered.

Day 6 – Record a video (even if you don’t post it yet)

Challenge task: Record a short video (even if you don’t post it yet).

Say your name, what you do, and why you want to share content.
Speak as if you were telling a friend.

Simple… but not easy.

I did it. Two takes, two languages… and a small identity crisis in between.

At first, I wasn’t sure what to say.

Do I just sell myself? Say “Hi, I’m David and I want to help you”?
Should I get emotional?
Be inspiring?
Pitch something?

That’s the thing with video,  it doesn’t let you hide.
And that’s why this challenge works.

Here's what I ended up saying (in plain terms):

My name is David Alfaro.
I help local businesses grow by building systems that actually sell: websites, email, SEO, and reputation.
No ads. No gimmicks. No fluff.
Just results.

And why am I sharing content?

Let’s be honest:
Yes, I want to be seen. I want more people to know what I do.
I want clients.
I want to get paid.
(This isn’t a non-profit challenge.)

But also…
I want to build something bigger than me.
Something that outlives a single sale or a good month.

And the only way to do that, is by showing up and speaking clearly.

💡 What I learned

  1. Video makes things real. Talking to a camera forces you to clarify your message.
  2. Your first take will suck. So what? Do it again. And again. That’s how clarity shows up.
  3. People won’t understand what you do unless you spell it out. No one has time to “figure you out.” Make it easy

The lesson behind the lesson

This whole thing, building a personal brand, is really about building clarity.

If you can’t explain who you are, what you do, and why it matters…
You can’t expect others to share it, believe it, or pay for it.

So start somewhere. Say it out loud. Rewrite it 10 times.
Record a video. And hit publish, even if your voice shakes.
